Tbilisi
Tbilisi runs along a narrow river gorge with sulphur bathhouses, carved wooden balconies and Soviet-era blocks all within a short walk. The old town, the Chronicle of Georgia and the Fabrika district cover very different sides of the city. It is one of the cheapest capitals in the region for eating out.

Mtskheta
Free entry · VerifiedTbilisi
The former capital 20 km from Tbilisi, with the 11th-century Svetitskhoveli cathedral and the hilltop Jvari monastery above the river confluence. Mtskheta is the spiritual centre of the Georgian Orthodox Church and its historic monuments are listed by UNESCO. Svetitskhoveli stands inside fortified walls in the compact old town, which is easy to explore on foot, while Jvari sits on a hill across the river and is reached by taxi or tour, offering the classic view where the Aragvi and Mtkvari rivers meet. Shared minibuses run frequently from Didube station in Tbilisi and take around 30 minutes. Churches are active places of worship, so cover shoulders and knees; women are usually asked to cover their hair, and scarves are often available at the entrance. Half a day is enough for both main sites and a meal in town.
