Mérida
Mérida is the safe, walkable capital of Yucatán, with pastel colonial streets, a strong Maya-influenced cuisine and free concerts most nights in the plazas. It is the best base for Uxmal, the Puuc route and the quieter cenotes. Heat is the main constraint from April onwards.
