A steep Sherpa-built stone stairway of around 1,500 steps to a ridge above Reine and the surrounding islands. The trail starts beside the E10 road just south of Reine, and most fit walkers reach the top in about an hour, though the steps are high and uneven, so allow extra time on the way down. From the ridge you look straight down on Reine, Hamnøy and the fjords of Moskenesøya, one of the most photographed views in Norway. The stairway is usually clear of snow from June to September; outside that window ice makes it dangerous and the upper section can be closed. Go early in the morning or late in the evening under the midnight sun to avoid the busiest hours, bring a windproof layer, and wear shoes with good grip. There is no fee for the hike, and parking is limited in Reine itself.
