Sossusvlei is the salt pan at the end of the Tsauchab valley, surrounded by some of the highest dunes in the world, with the dead camelthorn trees of Deadvlei nearby. The gate opens at sunrise and the light in the first hour is the reason to stay inside the park boundary. The last five kilometres need a 4x4 or the park shuttle.
