Zion is a narrow sandstone canyon in southern Utah where the Virgin river runs between walls up to 600 metres high. The main canyon is served by shuttle bus for most of the year, and its two signature routes are Angels Landing, which needs a permit for the chain section, and the Narrows, walked upstream in the river itself. Flash flooding governs whether the Narrows is open.
